After the matches, coach Cole Boon shared his thoughts, “Pelham’s numbers are similar to ours so we knew going into the dual it was going to be a close match. It was back and forth all the way up to 182 lbs, and we needed a win from Gavin Lovely in order to win the dual. He wrestled a tough opponent and was able to come through with the early pin, securing the team victory for us. Bishop Guertin is arguably the top team in Division 2 this year. They have a full line-up for the first time in several years, a great freshman class, and they have tough wrestlers across the board. Spaulding was down a few wrestlers today, so we had more forfeits in that dual than we were anticipating. I was happy to see Ben Gallagher win our sole head-to-head match in this dual. He’s been working hard all year long to get better and it’s nice to see it’s coming together for him.” Newport is back in action again next Wednesday, 01/31/18, for our “Senior Night” against John Stark Regional High School. It is a home meet that begins at 6:00 p.m. in the Newport High School gym.
