Yellow Jackets swarm Wasps for 65-42 win

WINDSOR – Windsor’s 29 point eruption in the third quarter erased any chances Woodstock might have had on Monday as the Yellow Jacket’s senior guard Seth Balch led the way with 15 of those points including four three pointers in 8 minutes. “Once we got rolling we played pretty well,” said Windsor head coach Harry Ladue after the game.

Woodstock’s front line of height is massive but they couldn’t find the bottom of the net in the first quarter as Windsor’s Ben Meagher and Adam Stapleton limited the Wasps chances with strong board play. Fast break opportunities became common for Windsor as Duncan Frazers hoop gave the locals a 10-2 lead before a buzzer beater from Woodstock cut the lead to 10-4 after the first period as Windsor was dictating tempo.

Windsor pushed their lead to 20-6 as Meagher, Ryland Richardson, Balch and Robert Slocum were running wild with fast break baskets plentiful. As quickly as Windsor found points, they went ice cold just as fast and watched helplessly as Woodstock capped by a Caleb Webb three pointer to tie the game 20-20 with just under a minute left in the half. Windsor’s Dakota Page ended the Wasp’s run with a hoop and Balch’s buzzer beater three pointer gave Windsor a slim 25-20 lead at the half.

Slocum and Balch opened the half with back to back three pointers as Woodstock responded with a 6-0 run of their own, then it was Balch time. The senior guard, in the span of 30 seconds, drained a three pointer, then another one and added a steal for a layup and suddenly the Windsor lead had exploded to 41-28. Meagher chipped in with a beautiful drive down the lane and Richardson joined the parade with a deep three pointer of his own. Frazer, Hunter Grela and more scoring from Balch spelled doom for Woodstock as Windsor had just dropped in 29 third quarter points including 20 points in a row to end the quarter leading 54-30.

“We had a bad 2nd quarter and we wanted to make sure we played better to start the second half,” said Balch after the game. Woodstock started the final quarter with an 8-0 run but the tempo had slowed to Windsor’s favor as Grela, Page, Balch, Dakohta Sanderson and Daniel Cardillo all had hoops to keep a Woodstock win out of reach as Windsor improved to 8-1 with a 65-42 win.

“The ball went in and that’s the name of the game,” said Ladue after the game and thought his team really stepped up against a much taller team and added “I thought Meagher played a real solid game in the paint against a really good Woodstock front line.”

Balch led Windsor with 21 points and he was followed by Meagher and Page who both added 8 points. Woodstock was led by their left handed forward Gabe Marsicoveter’s 17 points.

Windsor will travel to Brattleboro on Wednesday to face the 0-10 Colonels.

In JV action, Windsor JV coach Larry Dougher’s team handed Woodstock a 60-31 loss. Jackson Davis scored 15 points while Eli Milligan added 14 points of his own for the Yellow Jackets.
