“Overall, I thought this was a great “Senior Night” for the Newport wrestling team,” said head coach Cole Boon. “We won the dual meet, had several great exhibition matches, and we were able to honor our 3 seniors, Keagan Halleck, Matt Hennig, and captain Dylan Palmer. With one more dual meet left this season, I think a lot of the guys are ready and looking forward to the state meets to begin in 2 weeks.”
Newport will be back in action again this Saturday, 02/03/18, at the 2018 Plymouth Invitational held at Plymouth Regional High School. The tournament is scheduled to begin at 9:00 am.
Windsor edges past Brattleboro
The Windsor boys basketball team nearly blew their enormous lead on Wednesday but was able to hold on for the victory over Brattleboro, 59-52. The Yellow Jackets were up by 24 points in the third but Brattleboro clawed back in. The Yellow Jackets were able to fight off the storming Brattleboro and hold on for the win. Seth Balch picked up 13 points while teammate Ben Meagher netted 11. Windsor will be home on Friday to host Hartford.
Sunapee comes up short
The Sunapee Lakers boys team visited Derryfield on Wednesday and lost, 62-42. “We were just overmatched,” said head coach Tim Puchtler. “I was happy with the teams grit and competitiveness. We are starting 3 or 4 sophomores a night who are getting big minutes.” Brady Grzanna led the way with 15 points for Sunapee while Cade Robinson netted eight. Sunapee is back on the court on Friday when they host Nute.
