WATERVILLE, Maine — Sophomore Dana Bean (Franklin, N.H.) recorded game-highs of 19 points and 18 rebounds to lead the Colby-Sawyer men’s basketball team past Thomas College, 76-48, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action Friday evening.
Colby-Sawyer sweeps the two-game series with Thomas after holding the Terriers to less than 50 points in both meetings.
The 18 rebounds is one shy of tying a single-game record for the Chargers. Bean had an 18-rebound game at Johnson on Jan. 3, 2017. Junior Jourdain Bell (Manchester, N.H.) added 13 points, while sophomore Patrick Coffey (Westford, Mass.) was the third Charger in double digits with 12. Coffey also had six rebounds and three steals.
The game remained even through the first 10 minutes as both teams exchanged points on each end of the floor. The Chargers used a balanced attack offensively to open up to a 31-21 lead at the break, as Taylor Grande (Bedford, N.H.), Bean, Patrick Coffey, and Austin Boudreau (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) each contributed six points. Bean was a force on the boards with 14 first half rebounds. Mackinnon kept the Terriers within striking distance with nine points on 4-of-7 shooting.
Colby-Sawyer pulled away throughout the second half as it outscored Thomas 45-27 and dominated the glass 25-9. Bean continued to control the paint as he added another 13 points to lead the way. Thomas struggled offensively, shooting only 2-for-15 from behind the arch.
