The Mt. Royal boys and girls basketball teams traveled to Wilton-Lyndenborough on Friday and completed the sweep. Starting with the girls team, it was a 55-26 victory on the back of Alexis Matte who drained 20 points in the victory. Matte also went six for six at the free throw line. Jacinta Hogan also contributed with 13 points for the lady Knights.
For the boys, it was a 63-50 victory in the night cap. Alex Normandin led all scoring with a 29-point effort in completing the sweep. Kolbe Bocko for the Knights followed up with 12 points on the night. The Knights success on the night came from the foul line making 61% of their opportunities.
Both teams are back in action on Wednesday against Sunapee.
Fall Mountain frustrated against Winnisquam
It was a frustrating loss for the Fall Mountain boys team on Friday as they fell to Winnisquam 51-45. “Our guys just didn’t show up to play tonight,” said head coach Justin Cassarino. “We weren’t aggressive and we stopped doing what has helped us be successful this season.” Murdoch led the way for Fall Mountain with just 12 points. Fall Mountain will come to Stevens on Monday.
Sunapee has rough day on slopes
The Sunapee ski team had a tough day overall on Friday but on the bright side Jackie Balch placed first in the GS, while Maddie Austin placed 3rd.

On Friday during the Windsor boys basketball game, the Windsor football team was honored with the presentation of their championship banner. Their season was perfect with a 10-0 record followed by the championship.

Springfield hosted Arlington on Friday and lost 61-41. Springfield had a few illnesses and injuries and it required some guys to step into new roles. “Although our energy was good on both ends, we got away from our defensive principles at times and didn’t box out well, leading to a few open 3s and lots of second chance points for Arlington,” said head coach Mike Ruppel. Austin Rowe led Springfield with 8 while Jake Stepler, Damian Warner and JJ LeCouffe each added 7.
Fall Mountain girls pick up win
The Fall Mountain gils basketball team picked up a 69-22 over Winnisquam. After falling behind 4-0 in the first minute, Fall Mountain called a timeout and then went on a 21-2 run and never looked back. Every girl in uniform scored at least one point. Fall Mountain had three girls in double figures, Zoe Utton had 13, Zoey Luopa 10 and Chryssy Craig 10. Morgan Beauregard added 9 with three, 3 point field goals. Wildcats go to 11-3 and travel to Stevens Monday night.
Stevens girls picks up needed win
The Stevens girls got back in the win column on Friday as they defeated Hillsboro-Deering 45-25. Alexis Ford led the way picking up 12 points in a balanced scoring effort for the lady Cardinals. Jenna Pond contributed with 10 points and Sydney Miller picked up eight for the girls. The girls are back in action on Monday at 5:30 when Fall Mountain comes to Fredrick Carr gym.
Colby-Sawyer Falls to Maine Maritime, 54-37
NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women’s basketball team dropped a 54-37 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game to Maine Maritime on Friday evening.
Each team has won at their opponent’s gym this season. Colby-Sawyer earned a 52-50 victory in Castine, Maine in January.
Maine Maritime improves to 12-7 overall and 8-5 in conference play. The Mariners will travel down I-89 to play at New England College tomorrow at 1 p.m. Colby-Sawyer drops to 15-5 overall and 10-3 in the NAC. The Chargers will host Husson tomorrow at 1 p.m.
The visitors received a game best 20 points from sophomore Eryn Doiron (Wilton, Maine). She was 7-of-8 from the floor, which included 6-of-7 from three-point range. She added five rebounds and three assists. Junior Alayne Felix (Mahopac, N.Y.) was the only other Mariner in double figures with 11 points. She also had a game best six assists.
Colby-Sawyer was led by sophomore Tianna Sugars (Oxford, Maine). She recorded her 10thdouble-double of the season with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore Lexie Hamilton (Sunapee, N.H.) added 10 points and seven rebounds.
The visitors opened the game with a bucket from Felix, but Colby-Sawyer scored the game’s next 12 points to take a 10-point lead with 5:52 left in the quarter. The Mariners slowly clawed back and finished the frame on a 10-2 run to trail 14-12 after one.
Both teams struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the second quarter with each side making only two baskets. The first 6:36 of the stanza went scoreless until Lexie Hamilton put Colby-Sawyer in front 16-12. The Mariners responded with a traditional three-point play from Mikayla Charters (Newport, Maine) and a trey from Doiron to take an 18-16 lead with 2:47 remaining in the half. The Chargers scored the next three points to take a 19-18 lead at the half.
The two teams exchanged scores to start the third quarter, until another three from Doiron sparked a 10-2 run, giving the Mariners a 31-25 lead. Three of Maine Maritime’s six made baskets in the quarter came from beyond the arc as they would take a 34-29 advantage into the final quarter.
Maine Maritime began to pull away by starting the fourth on a 10-0 run. The Chargers were outscored 20-8 in the quarter, with all eight points coming from the free throw line.
The Mariners shot 41.2 percent from the floor and 50.0 percent from beyond the arc, while the Chargers shot 25.0 percent from the floor and just 12.5 percent from three-point land.
Colby-Sawyer Ends Game on 15-0 Run to Defeat Maine Maritime, 76-64
NEW LONDON, N.H. – Trailing 64-61 with 4:26 left to play, the Colby-Sawyer men’s basketball team scored the game’s final 15 points to earn a 76-64 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over Maine Maritime Friday evening.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 13-6 overall and 10-3 in the NAC. The Chargers will host Husson (15-5, 11-2) tomorrow at 3 p.m. Maine Maritime drops to 3-17 overall and 2-11 in conference play. The Mariners play at New England College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Colby-Sawyer sophomore Dana Bean (Franklin, N.H.) recorded his sixth double-double of the season with game-highs of 24 points and 16 rebounds. Junior Jourdain Bell (Manchester, N.H.) contributed 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting, while freshman Nate Trevino (Boerne, Texas) grabbed 11 rebounds in 21 minutes. Freshman Erik Olson (Dracut, Mass.) added 12 points on 4-of-4 off the bench. Senior Taylor Grande (Bedford, N.H.) picked up three steals to move into ninth in career thefts with 158.
Maine Maritime received 21 points all via the three-ball from senior Brendan Newcomb (Holden, Maine). Sophomore Nicholas DePatsy (Waldoboro, Maine) tallied 16 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Riley Jorgenson (Vienna, Va.) also reached double figures with 15 points.
After a slow start with only two made baskets in the opening four minutes, the Chargers offense picked up. Holding a 14-10 lead midway through the frame, Dana Bean went on a personal 9-3 run to give Colby-Sawyer a 23-13 lead with 5:25 to go in the half. A Jourdain Bell layup with less than four minutes to play gave the Chargers their largest lead of the half, 29-14, but Maine Maritime closed the gap with back-to-back three-pointers from Brendan Newcomb to close the half 33-23.
The Mariners began to chip away at the Chargers’ lead in the second half. Riley Jorgenson hit a trio of three-pointers to close the gap to 43-39 at 14:44 but Colby-Sawyer built up another 10-point lead at 12:35 after a pair of Bell free throws. The visitors responded once again to pull within three points at 8:29 after another Newcomb trey. After a 7-2 run from Colby-Sawyer pushed the home team in front by eight, 60-52, the Mariners scored nine-straight points on three three-pointers for their first lead of the game at 61-60 with 5:02 left to play.
A Bell free throw tied the game at 61-61, but DePatsy connected on his fourth trey of the game to put Maine Maritime in front 64-61 with 4:26 left.
The Chargers scored 15-unanswered points to the end the game and claimed the 76-64 victory.
Colby-Sawyer dominated the glass 48-28, including 19 offensive rebounds which led to 18 second chance points.
The Mariners took 39 three-point attempts and 15 two-point shots in the game.
