Robert Carsten will teach ‘Winter’s Brooks, Woodlands and Landscapes’

SPRINGFIELD — Capture the wonders of winter in pastel with exceptional artist and teacher Robert Carsten, in a workshop planned for 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the nonprofit Gallery at the VAULT in Springfield.

Participants can explore and experiment with the rushing brooks, snow-laden trees, and the glistening fields of winter, through the layering of colors, with an emphasis on sunlight and shadow, color temperatures and mid-tone grays imbued with underlying hue, as well as massing tones for dramatic New England scenes.

Carsten will give a demonstration and provide hands-on guidance. A critique will be held at the end of the session.

Cost is $75 for members and $80 for non-members. A materials list will be provided at registration. All levels are welcome. Participants are asked to bring a reference photo.

For more information, call or come into the Gallery at 68 Main St., Springfield. Open hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For information, call (802) 885-7111, email [email protected], or visit www.galleryvault.org.
