CAVENDISH — The school bus driver shortage appears to be easing, now that starting pay for that position has been raised to $22 an hour.
“We have had some potential hires,” Two Rivers Supervisory Union Superintendent Meg Powden said recently.
Two Rivers SU covers the towns of Andover, Baltimore, Cavendish, Chester, Ludlow, Mount Holly, and Plymouth.
Powden said someone had shown an interest in driving a school bus route in Cavendish.
“We hope to have a driver by mid-February,” Powden said.
To be a school bus driver in Vermont, applicants must have a valid CDL license and pass a training course from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Green Mountain and Cavendish Town School Districts pay for school bus driver training and licensing.
