REGIONAL — Girls on the Run Vermont (GOTRVT), with locations in Chester, Bellows Falls, Townshend and surrounding areas, welcomes its 19th season and has opened program registration for Southern Vermont.
From now until March 1, parents/guardians can register their daughter for the Southern Vermont spring program at participating sites and recreation centers by visitingGOTRVT.org.
Meeting twice a week for 10 weeks, Girls on the Run is an after-school program designed to help girls in grades three through eight realize the importance of self-confidence, healthy living, respect for their peers, and responsibility to their community. The lessons creatively integrate running, providing the girls with an opportunity to set goals and challenge themselves in an encouraging environment that advocates both physical and emotional wellness.
In 2017, Girls on the Run was recognized by the National Afterschool Association (NAA) as one of the most influential after-school programs.
Parents/guardians are encouraged to enroll their girls early, since space for each site is limited. Through support of individuals and sponsors, including Statewide Sponsor Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont, the registration fee is reduced for each participant to $100. Limited financial assistance is available.
Registration in Southern Vermont opened on Jan. 30, and closes Feb. 21 or when site is at capacity. Program start date: is the week of Feb. 26, with start date varying by location. Meeting days will be two days per week, with days varying by location. A 5k Celebration will take place at 10 a.m. May 12 in Brattleboro, with community members welcome.
