Local Roundup; Springfield wins at home

The Springfield girls basketball team picked up a home win on Tuesday defeating Otter Valley 54-44. “It was workmen like win and I was very happy with that,” said head coach Joe Costello. “I thought we needed some better energy to start but we adjusted and came out with more energy at the start of the third,” Costello added.

As for the scoring on Springfield’s end, it was Haley Purham that netted 14 points while Juliann Albero-Levings also knocked in 14. Teammate Jessica Cerniglia contributed with 13 points. Next up for the girls is a trip to Mill River on Saturday.

Windsor boys top Springfield 

The Windsor Yellow Jackets rolled over the Springfield boys team 66-39 on Tuesday. Duncan Fraizer netted 17 points in the victory. Dakota Sanderson chipped in with 12 points and Adam Stapleton hit for 11 points. The Windsor boys are back on the court Thursday with a trip to Newport.

Fall Mountain tripped up

Fall Mountain boys lost to Monadnock 67-54 on Tuesday. “The team played an outstanding game,” said head coach Justin Cassarino. “We prepared well for them and stayed with them for three quarters. I was very happy with how hard they worked and never gave up against a good Monadnock team.”

Marandino hit for 24 points in the losing effort for Fall Mountain while Murdoch hit for 14 points.

Green Mountain JV splits this week

The Green Mountain boys JV team is 1-1 this week.  They had a 55-54 loss to Mount Anthony in Bennington Monday evening.  Dylan McCarthy led Green Mountain with 18 and Ty Merrill had 15.  Sawyer Pippin added 8.

 

On Tuesday they beat West Rutland 54-28 to go 9-5 on the year. Dylan McCarthy led GM with 19 and Domenic Handren added 9.  Jacob Thomas chipped in with 6.

 

Mt. Royal split at Hinsdale

 

First up were the girls of Mount Royal who fell 44-34 to Hinsdale on Tuesday. Despite having a good percentage on the foul line, it wasn’t enough for the girls. Jacinta Hogan led the way for the lady Knights with 14 points. Alexis Matte had 11 points. Next up for the girls will be on the road on Friday at Farmington.

 

The Mt. Royal boys edged out a 63-60 win in the night cap over Hinsdale. It was a 24 point fourth quarter that helped propel the victory for the boys. Andrew Normandin hit for 32 points while Alex Normandin had 17 points for the Knights. The Knights hit for 74% on the free throw line. The boys will be back on the court Friday in Farmington.

 

Good results for Sunapee

 

Sunapee High School hosted the NHIAA Division IV Girls Alpine State Meet Tuesday at Mount Sunapee.  It was a beutiful day with excellent conditions.

 

The Sunapee girls placed second out of ten teams in both the GS and the Slalom  to earn the Runner-Up plaque.

 

Maddie Austin earned the Gold Medal in the GS and Silvere in the Slalom.  Ellie Frederick (7th) and Silvia Dalton also placed in the top ten in GS.  Robyn Salvitti placed 22nd, Eve Robida 37th and Bethie Coverdale 38th.

 

In the Slalom Jackie Balch placed 4th, Silvia Dalton 13th, Ellie Frederick 15th, Bethie Coverdale 28th and Roby Salvitti 30th.

 

All in all it was a good day for Sunapee ending up just 11 points behind Profile who won both events and took home the championship.

Green Mountain boys win

Green Mountain hosted Leland and Gray on Tuesday and won, 54-44.

“Our defense started to turn the tide in the third and fourth quarter,” stated coach Rapanotti.

Green Mountain took the lead 40-39 with six minutes and never looked back. “Sawyer Pippin really provided us with a spark in the second half, especially on the defensive side of the ball,” stated coach Rapanotti.

Green Mountain was able to hit free throws and take care of the ball down the stretch to seal the game.

Green Mountain was led by James Anderson with 16 points and 5 assists, and Ryan McSally with 12 points and six rebounds.

Green Mountain moves to 7-8 on the season and hosts Leland And Grey on Friday.

Bellows Falls knocked down 

Bellows Falls boys went to Twin Valley on Tuesday  and lost 61-38. Bellows Falls were leading 26-22 at half while playing great defense and moving the ball offensely. But to start he 3rd quarter, Bellows Falls were flat and turned the ball over a lot to lead to easy points for the Wildcats.

Twin Valley went on to score 27 points to our 7. “Our offense fell apart the second half and we could not get it going, I’ll give credit to Twin Valley they put the pressure on us and made us make a lot of bad decisions,” said head coach Ryan Stoodley. “We will regroup and get after the Cosmos on Friday here at 7.”
