Youth Corps summer program will teach about ecology

MANCHESTER — Hildene Youth Corps is now accepting applications for its summer program in Manchester at the Lincoln Family Home.

Hildene Youth Corps is a two-week summer program for eight highly-motivated young people entering seventh or eighth grade. Youth Corps members spend their mornings working as a team to complete a project that allows for better access to the natural areas of Hildene.

The 2018 project will be to create a vernal pool boardwalk to allow school groups and visitors to explore the unique and special habitat. In the afternoon youth corps members will investigate the diverse ecology of Hildene, enjoy crafts, help with projects, and have fun. Youth corps members will also learn about the ecological work of some nonprofits.

At the end of the two-week session, each Youth Corps member will have the opportunity to direct $50 to one of the organizations with which they became familiar.

Applications for the program are due by March 23. Hildene is a nonprofit organization.
