CHARLESTOWN — Basil M. Hodgdon, 70, of Ponderosa Park in Charlestown, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018, at his home following a period of failing health. He was born Sept. 30, 1947, in Windsor, the son of Ernest D. and Dorothy (Daudelin) Hodgdon and had been a lifetime area resident. Basil was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. On Sept. 16, 1967, he married the former Shirley Moore and they had recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
He had been employed as a technician by O.H. Lewis in Claremont. He later started his own business, Basil’s Burner Service and later worked for the VA in White River Junction, Vermont. Basil enjoyed going to yard sales and loved the art of the deals he made. He loved his fur baby critters but above all else, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Members of his family include his wife, Shirley Hodgdon of Charlestown; four sons, Bo Hodgdon and his wife, Kim of Claremont, Shawn Hodgdon of Charlestown, Eric Hodgdon of Claremont, Joseph Hodgdon of Charlestown; a daughter, Angela Paquette and her husband, Joe of Claremont; seven grandchildren, Ashley Hodgdon, Corbin Paquette, Kayla Hodgdon, Danny Rowley, Brandon Freer, Michael Hodgdon, Joseph Hodgdon; four great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Ernie Hodgdon Jr., of Ocala, Florida; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers, Jimmy, Harry, Norman, Dick and Gary; and a sister, Brenda Hodgdon.
There will be no formal services. The family will receive friends and relatives from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Roy Funeral Home, 93 Sullivan St., in Claremont. Committal Services will be held at the convenience of the family at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
