Timber Harvest Tour scheduled

CHARLESTOWN — A Timber Harvest Tour is scheduled for March 1 in the Charlestown Town Forest.

The 90-minute free tour is slated to start at 4 p.m. and registration is not required, according to information provided by the town.

Participants will walk through a “cut-to-length timber harvest” being conducted in the town forest.

The tour will be led by foresters Jeff Snitkin from Bay State Forestry Service and Dode Gladders from UNH Cooperative Extension.

A look at the equipment used for this type of mechanized harvest will be included. A topic of discussion will be how foresters go about long-term forest management planning to meet landowner objectives.

They ask that participants be prepared for winter weather and bring appropriate footwear. Since parking space is limited, carpooling is encouraged.

The site is located on Acworth Stage Road. From the center of Charlestown follow Sullivan Street to Old Claremont Road, and then turn right onto Acworth Road, then left onto North Hemlock Road, and then left onto Acworth Stage Road. The log landing will be on your right after the horse barn.

Questions about this event should be directed to Snitkin at [email protected] or (802) 310-0292.
