Local Roundup; Stevens topped by Hopkinton

The Stevens boys lost 51-33 at Hopkinton on Tuesday. Hopkinton jumped out to a 15 point lead after a quarter and never looked back. Tanner Durkee had 8 points and 8 rebounds to lead Stevens. Drew Grenier had 7 points, and Josh Stithen and Luke Come each had 6 points. Stevens will play Mascoma on Friday Night at 7:00 at Frederick Carr Gymnasium. They will be honoring our seniors prior to the game for senior night.

Windsor loses to Woodstock

The Windsor boys basketball team fell just short on Tuesday to Woodstock, 59-51. “Woodstock went up big and we were able to cut it down but just didn’t have enough to overcome the deficit,” said head coach Harry Ladue. Ben Meagher netted 13 for the Yellow Jackets while Duncan Fraizer picked up eleven.

Springfield knocks off Woodstock 

In what head coach Joe Costello called, “A good build up towards playoffs”, the Springfield girls basketball team defeated Woodstock 59-27 on Tuesday. It was senior night and the lone senior and leading scorer Maddee Stagner led the way with 15 points while her teammate Hailey Purham netted 13. Springfield will take on Windsor on Thursday. 

Bellows Falls wins thriller in OT

The Green Mountain boys varsity team came to Bellows Falls on Tuesday and both teams gave the crowd one heck of a game. In the end, it was Bellows Falls that came out on top 68-62 in overtime.

 

The first half was a back and forth for both teams, as both teams offense’s were on point and moved the ball around and scored with easy lay ins. By the half, it was knotted 27-27.

 

In the second half, Bellows Falls came out a little more aggressive on defense and offense and took a 7 point lead going into the 4th. Things were going well for Bellows Falls and then became unglued a little and blew a 12 point lead. With a tie game, and 30 seconds in the game, Griff Waryas made a great move and scored a easy lay up but GM came down and scored on a easy layup as well to force OT. 

 

In OT, Bellows Falls scored first and didn’t look back. To seal the victory, Griff Waryas did it at the foul line making 3 of 4 shots . “I was really happy the way we kept our composure after losing a 12 point lead and taking this victory in OT the way we did,” said head coach Ryan Stoodley.  

 

Shane Clark lead the team with 26 points 9 rebounds and 5 steals and Ryan Kelly had 14 points. Bellows Falls will play at Leland and Gray Friday night.
