Local Roundup; Fall Mountain drops season finale

The Fall Mountain boys team lost to Campbell 90-65 in the regular season finale. “We played great defense in the first half and then gave up 54 points in the second half,” said head coach Justin Cassarino. “We can have a great night on offense, like we did, but we won’t win any games if our defense doesn’t show up. Give credit to Campbell because they are a very good team, but we pride ourselves on our defense and it just wasn’t there tonight.”

Marandino led the way netting 22 points while Wilson contributed with 16.

Mount Royal ousted by Hinsdale 

The Mount Royal girls basketball team took on Hinsdale in the quarter finals of the NHIAA division four tournament on Friday and lost 41-17. It wasn’t the outing the lady Knights were looking for and their season is now over. The numbers up and down were not good for the Knights. The Knights were outscored 21-6 in the first half and managed only three points in the final quarter. Alexis Matte was held to nine points and Sophie LaRose was held to just five.

Springfield boys topple Hartford 

The Springfield boys took on Hartford on Friday and defeated them 55-44.

 

“We had a lot of foul trouble in the first and had to have some of our guys off the bench, especially Cam Harbeson and Kyle Monier, step up to keep us in the game,” said head coach Mike Ruppel.

 

Springfield had a 1-point lead heading into the 4th quarter and were able to pull away when they finally got some open three point shots to fall. “We made our free throws down the stretch to hold on,” added Ruppel. “I thought it was an excellent team effort overall and I’m proud of our guys for continuing to work hard in practice and in games.”

 

Noah Zierfus led Springfield with 14 despite foul trouble, Dakota Bushey chipped in 13, and Brenden Dwinell scored 8 off the bench.

Bellows Falls win

Bellows Falls boys basketball had a good night as they were able to win over Leland and Gray, 61-44.  Bellows Falls started off slow but picked it up and scored 22 points in the first quarter to Leland and Gray’s eight and were held the lead the rest of the night. Bellows Falls was leading 34-19 at half.

Leland and Gray came out aggressively in the 3rd and cut the lead to ten but Bellows Falls was able to regrouped and put it back at 17 and not relinquish. “We are starting to play good basketball,” said head coach Ryan Stoodley,  “We are playing as a team and things are clicking together. I’m liking the direction we are going in,” he added.

Shane Clark led the scoring with 22 points and 6 rebounds and Ryan Kelly had 12 points and 6 rebounds. Bellows Falls is now 7 and 10 on the season and will play Poultney Monday night at home at 7pm.

GM JV boys pick up two wins

The Green Mountain boys JV team moved to 12-5 with two wins this week.  On Tuesday, they had a 55-29 win over Bellows Falls. Dylan McCarthy led GM with 15 and Anthony Steele had 12.  Eric Phelps and Everett Mosher both had 8.

On Friday in Twin Valley they won 54- 25 win. Dylan McCarthy led GM with 20 and Eric Phelps had 13.  Anthony Steele 9 points and 12 rebounds.
