America was again I was dismayed to see the front page of The Eagle Times today, 2/21/18. I know that sensation drives sales and clever headlines create sensation. But sometimes I wish the papers would just do what is right. A headline like: CITY IS LOSING HOPE is nothing but damaging sensationalism. Yes, it is true that Hope Recovery Center is pulling out of Claremont. It is also true that there is a group of dedicated people and organizations seeking a solution in order to be able to continue to serve people in recovery. There are people trying to solve the problems. That is the story that readers need to hear! Claremont already suffers from negative thinking. The local paper does not need to feed that attitude when there are thousands of people invested in this city and all it can be. Every day people celebrate what Claremont is and try to make it better. Yes, there are challenges. We all know that. But there is always hope and there are always people striving to turn that hope into reality. Please consider how to help celebrate all that is here and all that so many are striving to accomplish in spite of setbacks and barriers. We need a paper that will help us become the best we can be.
