SWANZY – The Fall Mountain girls basketball team fell to the defending champions, Monadnock on Saturday night in the quarterfinals of the NHIAA division three tournament as free throws played a key role in deciding the game. Defense controlled the game as the Huskies ended up with a 22-20 win. Fall Mountain led at the half 15-9 and again after three quarters 17-13 but Fall Mountain managed one three pointer from Morgan Beauregard over the final eight minutes as Monadnock hit for nine final quarter points including five points from the charity stripe in the second half.
Fall Mountain didn’t go to the line over the last 16 minutes and shot three for six from the charity stripe in the game while the Huskies hit 6 out of 10 attempts. Zoey Luopa led her team with seven points while Beaureguard added six points. Zoe Utton finished with four points and Sopjie Bardis’ three pointer finished the scoring for Fall Mountain. The Wildcats finish the season with a 13-7 record.
#1 seeded Monadnock will take on #5 seeded Conant in the late game on Wednesday while #2 Gilford will battle #6 Hopkinton at 5:30. All games will be played at Southern NH University.
