Weather Watch

Snow takes a beating

Much of the winter snow on the ground took a berating last week, helped along by rain on Friday and some foggy nights. The ice rink on the Newport Common took a beating and lots of grass is now showing.

The weatherman projected 3-6 inches of snow for the Sullivan County area on Sunday along with rain and sleet. However, the snowfall fell just a tad short with just over an inch. There was a period of misty rain but all-in-all the projections fell well short.

Despite the warm temperatures of late Mount Sunapee still has a 14-inch snow base with 26 inches at the summit. On Monday morning 49 of 66 trails were open for skiing serviced by 8 of 10 lifts.
