MANCHESTER — Local environmental group Earth Matters invites all to a screening and discussion of the film “Awake: A Dream from Standing Rock,” from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday March 8 at the Wilburton Inn in Manchester Village.
A year after the destruction of the prayer camps by the state and oil companies, viewers can “bear witness to the beauty of the Native American resistance to the destruction of America’s water for oil and fracking,” according to a press release.
Beverly Little Thunder, Abenaki leader of Wabunowin Dawn Society, will lead a discussion. The Wabunowin Dawn Society is a nonprofit, multi-cultural Earth faith based organization dedicated to engaging the greater society of Turtle Island, and N’dakina (also known as Vermont) specifically, in supporting the advancement and recognition of local indigenous culture, according to the press release.
