CLAREMONT — After more than a decade working with the city, Chief Assessor Marlene Jordan will resign her position at the end of the month, officials announced on Wednesday.

As a result of her leaving, City Manager Ryan McNutt said, the city is searching for a new candidate to lead the assessing department. The moves comes after Jordan accepted a job with Lebanon. She will retain her seat on the Claremont Planning Board.

“I am thankful for the support and opportunities that the city have provided me during this past 11 years,” Jordan said. “I have truly enjoyed my tenure with the city, and I am more than grateful for the encouragement given to me in pursuing my professional growth and goals.”

Jordan began her career with the city in 2006 as the clerk for the assessing department before ascending the ranks. In 2008, she became the assessing technician serving under then-Chief Assessor Edward Tinker and later under Chief Assessor Dan Langille.

In 2012, Jordan became the head assessor for the Department, where she oversaw two city-wide revaluations.

With Jordan’s position expected to open March 29, city staff announced this week that they are looking for a replacement. McNutt said he will ideally find a candidate for the position before July.

According to the city’s job posting, salary for the chief assessor is $81,237. Candidates with degrees in public administration, real estate or related fields and more than five years of relevant experience are asked to apply. Candidates should be eligible for Department of Revenue Administration certification within a year of accepting the job.

“This position will be responsible for setting and defending property values for residential, commercial, and industrial properties,” Claremont’s Human Resources description of the job said.

A temporary assessor is slated to be hired until a candidate is found.
