Windsor boys have sights set on D-III State Title

After defeating Thetford Academy 52-48 in the semifinal round, the Windsor boys’ basketball team is going to the championship game tonight, Saturday, March 17th, at the Barre Auditorium.

After clinching the number one seed in the regular season, Windsor Coach Harry Ladue said, “We’re going to have two home games. That was a goal at the beginning of the year. And then, on to Barre, and hopefully we make some noise up there.”

The Yellowjackets have made their noise, and they’re looking to make more. Riding a six-game winning streak, they advance to the championship for the first time since winning it all in 2008.

The No. 1 seed Yellowjackets have a tall task ahead of them, as they face-off against No. 2 seed Williamstown, who has won five of the last six Division 3 titles.

The Blue Devils defeated No. 6 BFA-Fairfax 69-52 to reach the championship game. Windsor has not faced Williamstown yet this season. The last time they played was in last year’s semis, where the Blue Devils won 71-48 on their way to another championship victory. Over the last four seasons, Williamstown is 2-0 against the Yellowjackets in the postseason.

Speaking after the semifinal game against Thetford, coach Ladue seemed rather calm when addressing Saturday’s big game. Ladue said, “We’ll be ready. We’ve seen Williamstown. We’ve had to meet Williamstown somewhere the last few years… they seem to win them all. We’ll try changing that on Saturday.”

When asked what it would mean to have his senior season end on the right note, Windsor’s Adam Stapleton said, “Man I would love it. To go off into the sunset with this team…  I know my coach deserves it. He’s been at this for years and I’d love to be the team that gives it to him.”

The game will be a head-to-head matchup of teams that both have a 20-3 record. Only one can walk away calling themselves the Division 3 State Champs.  Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
