Chill in the air

Spring arrived on Tuesday, March 20, but no one told the thermometers hanging outside. It was -2 degrees Sunday morning in Newport, and even colder in some other areas. At 9:55 a.m. Sunday it was -11 at the Mount Washington Observatory with a wind chill of -49.

Elsewhere in New Hampshire at daybreak on Sunday it was -8 at Lebanon; -20 at Whitefield and -14 at Berlin. The sky was clear but it was bundle up time for anyone heading outside.

According to WMUR, the storm headed across the country was projected to break into two parts with one part staying to the southern U.S. The second part is still a potential threat to New England. However, unless it makes an unexpected move northward, New England could luck out on this one. More information will be forthcoming by midweek.

By March standards, the morning temperatures have been on the low side and so have the afternoon readings. Over the weekend there was little indication of snow melt.
