CROYDON — After 25 years, Jim Harding decided to step down as one of Croydon’s three selectmen.
“If I didn’t have this job I’d be sitting in a chair at home and falling asleep. That’s why I did it,” he joked prior to the Croydon Town Meeting on Saturday.
“I greatly enjoyed the job,” Harding said on a more serious note.
“Jim is a man of few words, but gets the job done,” said Carol Marsh, another board member. “I congratulate him for 25 years,” Marsh continued.
“Been there, done that but it’s not the same any more; the rules have changed many times,” Harding said.
The Croydon resident said he would continue to work for United Construction in Newport during the summer months. During part of the winter Harding and his wife Barbara reside in Russell Springs, Ky. “It’s bigger than Croydon,” he revealed. Harding said that property is currently on the market.
In the future, the Hardings plan to do some traveling in their camper.
When Harding was presented his plaque of appreciation at the end of the meeting, he received a standing ovation.
