NEWPORT — Sarah Carr, 37, of Claremont, was sentenced in Sullivan Superior Court on March 13 to serve a 12-month term of incarceration at the Sullivan County House of Corrections for violating the terms of her probation.
Carr was sentenced after entering a plea of guilty for possessing an electronic defense weapon as a convicted felon, and a plea of true to a probation violation. Carr will be evaluated for the Sullivan County TRAILS program, which is an intensive incarceration based treatment program run by the Sullivan County Department of Corrections, and one based upon best practices.
Carr will continue to be supervised by the New Hampshire Department of Corrections upon her release from incarceration. Carr further received a two to five-year term of incarceration at the New Hampshire State Prison for Women for her possession of an electronic defense weapon as a convicted felon. That sentence was suspended for a period of five years.
Carr was arrested in January by members of the New Hampshire Department of Corrections. Carr was taken into custody after having violated the terms of her probation. A further investigation determined Carr to have, in her possession, an electronic defense weapon, which she was unable to possess away from her residence as a convicted felon.
The law enforcement community of Sullivan County remains determined to ensure those individuals on probation supervision adhere to the terms and conditions of their supervision, while working to achieve the rehabilitative objectives of sentencing, according to a press release from the Sullivan County Attorney’s Office.
That office will continue to prosecute these violations, and related crimes, in ways designed to keep the people of Sullivan County safe, and meet the punitive, rehabilitative, and deterrence objectives of sentencing, the press release continued.
The New Hampshire Department of Corrections was involved in the investigation into Carr, and the case was prosecuted by Deputy Sullivan County Attorney Justin Hersh.
