Conroy challenges Fratzel in Newport Selectman race

NEWPORT — A two-way race has developed for the three-year opening on the Newport Board of Selectmen.

Incumbent Todd Fratzel filed on the opening day for re-election and a few days later Cindy Conroy joined the race. Conroy is the wife of Newport Fire Chief Wayne Conroy.

There will also be two other races on the Newport Town Meeting ballot on Election Day, May 8.

Margot Estabrook the incumbent, will be seeking re-election for a six-year term as a Supervisor of the Checklist. She will be challenged by Tobin Menard.

Charen Urban is running for re-election as a Library Trustee, a three-year term. Menard is also on the ballot for this position.

Newport Business Administrator Paul Brown is running unopposed for re-election as Trustee of Trust Funds for three years.

After 22 years as Newport Town Moderator, Atty. William Howard Dunn will be stepping down. Virginia Irwin a State Representative and member of the Newport School Board filed for the post, a two-year term.
