Windsor- Windsor’s Seth Balch pitched a brilliant game on Saturday’s blustery morning, leading Windsor to a 5-1 win over Mill River.
The Yellow Jackets scored early off of a sharp single to center field by Robert Slocum (2B) in the first inning, which brought home Ryland Richardson (SS) and Seth Balch (P) to put Windsor up 2-0. Slocum then came around to score after a Dakota Page smash that ate up Mill River’s second baseman and resulted in an error. In the second inning, Dylan Hodgdon (DH) would score the 4th Windsor run as the result of a sharp single by Richardson to left field and would eventually score on an infield error ending the scoring for Windsor on the day.
Balch was in a nice groove on the mound all game Saturday for Windsor. After getting the wind knocked out of him in the second inning by a line drive to the ribcage by Mill River’s clean-up hitter Nick Hurka, Balch went on to pitch a complete game.. He allowed just two hits and one run over the seven innings, striking out ten and walking none. There was a stretch where Balch retired 11 batters in a row. His catcher, Duncan Frazer called a great game behind the plate. Mill River managed to break up the shutout in the top of the 7th inning, making the final score 5-1 in favor of the now 2-0 Yellow Jackets.
“We hit the ball well again today and Mill River made some good plays… but our pitching once again was solid,” said Windsor head coach Jamie Richardson after the game, “Our pitching depth is strong and our team attitude is great.”
In the win, Richardson had two hits and an RBI, Slocum had two RBIs and a run-scored, and Balch had a hit, a run-scored and a walk. Dakota Page and Adam Stapleton also had hits on the day.
Windsor will welcome the 0-2 Springfield Cosmos to town on Wednesday.
