Claremont man charged following ‘road rage’ incident

WINDSOR, Vt. — A Claremont man has been charged with multiple offenses following what police are describing as a “road rage incident.”

Vermont State Police received a 911 call at 6:23 p.m. Friday, April 13 from Corey Edwards of White River Junction, Vermont. Edwards stated to police that while driving south on Interstate 91 near mile marker 54 in the town of Windsor, Vermont, a road rage incident occurred between him and another operator.

Edwards alleged that the other operator was “all over the road, tailgating him,” and that the other operator then pulled alongside him and pointed a pistol at him, all according to a press release from the Vermont State Police.

Vermont State Police, with the assistance of Weathersfield Police Department, stopped 21-year-old Christopher Lee Rourke on Vermont Route 131 in Weathersfield.  An investigation revealed that Rourke, a resident of Claremont, New Hampshire, was in possession of  a semi-automatic pistol, and he was taken into custody, police said.

Rourke was transported to the Springfield Police Department for processing, all according to police. He has been charged with Reckless Endangerment, Negligent Operation, Criminal Threatening, and Attempted Aggravated Assault.

Rourke was later released with a criminal citation and is scheduled to appear at 8 a.m. on May 8 in Vermont Superior Court, Windsor Criminal Division to answer to the charges.
