LUDLOW— Okemo Mountain Resort recently recognized several employees for working heroically to save a guest’s life after he collapsed from cardiac arrest.
Okemo employee Brenda Reed was recognized for her willingness to get involved and save a guest’s life on March 12, 2018. Reed witnessed a guest having a cardiac arrest from her position as a server in Okemo’s Sitting Bull Restaurant. The guest was unresponsive when she reached him, but Reed worked with an Okemo Ski Patrol member to begin CPR immediately. They continued their efforts until other members of the Okemo Ski Patrol arrived. An AED was brought to the scene and used. The guest was transported by ambulance to Dartmouth–Hitchcock Medical Center, where he underwent heart surgery.
It is because of Reed’s heroic efforts that this guest was able to leave the hospital three days later and return to his home in Canada.
The Mueller family, Okemo Mountain Resort owners, thanked Reed for her quick thinking and lifesaving efforts. They also recognized Ski Patrol staff members, Okemo Assistant Ski Patrol Director Everett Moore, Patrollers John Mazurek, Bob Hartnett, Susan Coggeshall and Chelsey Manley. They all demonstrated “The Okemo Difference.”
