Charlestown Police Department log April 1 to April 7

Sunday, April 1

6:50 a.m. — Officer responded to a report of a car’s hood flying off on Bellows Falls Road. The driver’s parents were on their way. The hood was picked up and the car was driven from the scene.

7:33 a.m.  — Officer checked on a car parked on the side of Claremont Road with the driver sleeping inside. Kelly Marlana Conley, 33, of Unity, was arrested for DUI and reckless operation. She received a hand summons to appear in court and was given a courtesy transport to Claremont.

5:10 p.m. — Officer responded to a report of a safety concern in an area mobile home park regarding an extension cord going from one trailer to another across the road, covered by a hose.

11:59 p.m. — Officer responded to a domestic situation. One person left the residence.

Monday, April 2

9:05 a.m. — Officer responded to a report of a small child sitting in the front seat of an SUV in the senior Housing parking lot. The SUV was gone when police arrived.

10:42 a.m. — Officer spoke with an elderly man at the request of his daughter about being scammed out of a lot of money.

11:39 a.m. — After a traffic stop on Lower Lovers Lane Road, the driver was issued a citation for loud exhaust.

1:23 p.m. — Ambulance responded to a 90-year-old woman who fell the previous night. She was transported to the hospital.

3:47 p.m. — Ambulance and police responded to a 67-year-old man passed out and having seizures on a Main Street sidewalk of Main Street. The patient refused transportation to the hospital.

4 p.m. — Ambulance and police responded to a 70-year-old woman who was possibly having a stroke. The patient was transported to the hospital.

4:50 p.m. — After a traffic stop on Springfield Road, the driver was issued a citation for uninspected vehicle.

Multiple calls about residents being called with the IRS scam. 

Tuesday, April 3

3:43 a.m.  — Officer responded to a noise complaint.

4:08 a.m. — Officer spoke with a person about a breach of bail.

11:14 a.m. — Officer responded to check the well-being of a resident. There was no contact with the resident.

12:19 p.m. — After a traffic stop on Langdon Road, a driver was issued a citation for speed.

1:02 p.m. — Officer responded to a car lockout. Entrance was gained.

1:26 p.m. — Officer spoke with a resident about scheduling a civil standby so he could get his belongings.

4:51 p.m. — Officer responded to a report of a tractor-trailer unit parked on the sidewalk of the old Jiffy Mart. The driver was located.

5:42 p.m. — Officer spoke with a resident about people shooting in a vacant lot.

5:56 p.m. —  Officer responded to a report of a possibly intoxicated woman walking a dog on Main Street. The officer located and spoke with the woman.

11:53 p.m. — Fire Department responded to cover for Unity at their station.

Wednesday, April 4

4:59 a.m. — Officer responded to a commercial burglar alarm activation at an area manufacturing facility. Employees were on the scene.

4:08 p.m. — Officer removed trash from Bellows Falls Road.

4:12 p.m. — Officer assisted state police with a traffic stop.

6:01 p.m. — Officer checked on a broken-down car on Claremont Road. The driver was all set.

10:08 p.m. — Police and fire responded to a low-hanging cable wire on Springfield Road. The cable company was contacted and they advised to cut the cable because they were two hours away. One lane of the road was closed.

10:13 p.m. — Police and fire responded to Old Claremont Road for a branch in the road. The branch was removed.

10:40 p.m. — Officer responded to a commercial alarm activation at a River Road business. The cleaning crew was on the scene.

Thursday, April 5

4:22 a.m.  — Officer assisted the ambulance with an 83-year-old woman who had fallen and her face was bleeding. She was transported to the hospital.

5:06 a.m. — Officer responded to a report of a cigarette container rolling down Main Street. The officer located the container and removed it from the road.

5:17 a.m. — Officer responded to a car lockout. The owner was able to get into the car before the officer arrived.

6:34 a.m. — Report taken of a big tree across Scenic Hill Road. The highway department was notified.

10:13 a.m. — Officer spoke with a resident about hiring someone to take samples of his home for asbestos but had not received the report. A check had been given to the person and the check was cashed. 

12:17 p.m. — Officer spoke with a resident about receiving harassing and threatening text messages. 

5:42 p.m. — Officer responded to a report of a black dog running loose in the area of Briggs Hill Road and East Street. There was no contact with the dog.

8:41 p.m. —  Officer responded to a report of a loose dog at a residence on Wheeler Rand Road. The black and white dog with a camouflage collar but no tags was transported to the Charlestown Animal Hospital because he was covered in ticks. 

10:33 p.m. — Officer gave a courtesy transport to a person from the Chershire Bridge to the T-Bird in Claremont at the request of Springfield Police Department.

Friday, April 6

8:12 a.m. — Officer responded to a report of a wire across East and Paris streets. It was found to be a cable wire and was removed from the road.

3:11 p.m. — Report taken of a person going to a residence on Center Street trying to sell overstock of meat.

3:28 p.m. — Officer located children in a car en route to a fight that was reported earlier that was going to happen at the boat landing after school. The children were transported to the police department and their parents were called.

4:02 p.m. — Police and Ambulance responded to a report of a man sitting in a field off Claremont Road with his head in his hands getting snowed on. The officer located the man and he was transported to the hospital for evaluation.

4:06 p.m. — Police, Fire and Ambulance responded to a car vs. school bus accident on Calavant Hill. There were no injuries reported and the driver who allegedly hit the bus left the scene.

5:37 p.m. — Report of a large on hole on the side of Salt Shed Road. The highway department was notified.

Saturday, April 7

12:54 p.m. — Officer responded to Claremont Road for a report of a car that had trash flying out and hitting other cars. The officer located the car and the driver was picking up the trash.

2:14 p.m. — Report taken of a driver who “continues going on Old Acworth Stage Road in the area where no traffic should be going.”

2:47 p.m. — Officer responded to a report of a trash bag on the corner of Springfield Road and Claremont Road. The officer picked up the trash and a citizen offered to bring it to the dump for him.

5:32 p.m. —  Ambulance and Police responded to a 78-year-old man who fell with a possibly broken arm. He was transported to the hospital.

6:26 p.m. — Officer responded to a report of children looking inside a house through the windows. The officer located the children and they were told not to do that.

6:41 p.m. — Fire chief responded to a report of smoke on Perry Avenue. It was found to be a permitted burn.

6:44 p.m. — Officer reported an alarm activation in the maintenance area of the middle school. It was found to be a low fuel alarm and maintenance personnel were notified.

9:17 p.m. — Officer responded to a report of a tree on lines on Langdon Road. This had already been reported to the utility company and there was no immediate threat of a road hazard.
