Woman killed when car hits tree

Staff Report
CLAREMONT — Police say a 61-year-old woman died on Thursday when her car ran struck a tree off Chestnut Street.

Danuta Antosiewicz, of Springfield, Vermont, was pronounced dead at Valley Regional Hospital after she was transported from the wreckage of her 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The Claremont Police Department, Claremont Fire Department and Golden Cross Ambulance Service responded to the scene.

Preliminary investigations found that Antosiewicz was driving on Chestnut Street near the Unity town line shortly after 6 a.m. on Thursday morning when she apparently left the roadway and struck a large tree stump, Claremont police say.

The incident remains under investigation, but police said speed or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.

There were no passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash, and police say that no other vehicles have yet been identified as being involved.

Anyone with more information about the crash is asked to contact Captain Stephen Lee at [email protected] or 603-542-7010.
