CHESTER— Exhibitors weren’t the only ones to win at the 2018 LEGO Contest, sponsored by St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and held at the NewsBank Conference Center on Saturday March 17. The Whiting Library’s Children Section received a donation from the church from the event.
Said Jeanne Waldren, Youth Services Librarian, “How terrific it is to be a part of St. Luke’s LEGO Contest each year! Whiting Library offers a hearty thank-you for the gift of a portion of the proceeds from the contest to assist our Youth Services Department. LEGO building and creating has proven to benefit our kids developmentally. This contest assists in bringing forth the great talent and ingenuity of our young folks of this area. I hope that the contest grows and will bring more and more creations and inventive displays for years to come.”
Two of this year’s winning entries are presently on display at the Whiting Library: the 6’4” “Clock Tower,” created by Colton Gaudettte, a fifth grader from Springfield; and “The Jack House,” a creation inspired by the tale of “Jack and the Beanstalk” and fabricated by Alexander Taylor, a pre-K student from Chester who is also part of the LEGO Club at the Library.
The LEGO Club meets every Monday from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Whiting Library through May and will start up again on August 27. At the sessions all ages are welcome to build and rebuild with LEGO and DUPLO blocks and to share ideas and techniques.
