MOUNT HOLLY — On April 20, 2018, at approximately 1024 hours, Troopers from the Vermont State Police Rutland Barracks responded to a two-vehicle crash on Vermont Route 103, in the Town of Mount Holly, Vermont.
Initial investigation revealed that Operator #2 (Tucker) was traveling southbound operating vehicle #2. Operator #1 (Emerson) was traveling northbound operating vehicle #1. Vehicle #1 crossed the center line and was almost across the fog line on the left side of the roadway. Operator #2 (Tucker) swerved to his left to avoid vehicle #1 and Operator #1 (Emerson) attempted to swerve back into the northbound lane of travel. Vehicle #1 struck vehicle #2 head on in the southbound lane of travel. Most of the impact was on the passenger side of both vehicles.
Richard Emerson, 70, of Chester, VT, was the operator of Vehicle #1, a 2004 Ford F150. Sandra Royce, 61, of Chester was a passenger. There was significant damage to the front end and the front right quarter.
Emerson was transported to Springfield Hospital, the passenger was life flighted by DHART to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center with possible internal injuries.
The operator of vehicle #2, a 2006 Ford Ranger, was Paul Tucker, 67, of Ludlow, VT. Vehicle #2 was totaled with significant impact damage to the entire passenger side. Tucker was taken to Springfield Hospital with pain to the right side of his body and minor cut to his forehead
The Vermont State Police were assisted on scene by Ludlow Police Department, Windsor County Sheriff’s Department, Ludlow Rescue, Ludlow Fire Department, Regional Ambulance Service, and DHART.
