Ludlow Rotary Speaker Discusses Fire Investigations with His Dog

Ralph Pace
In a recent meeting of the Ludlow Rotary Club (LRC), Steven Otis, Vermont State Police Fire Investigator, discussed how he investigated fires with the help of his dog, Gauva. He explained how the dog, trained in locating various fire causes such as gasoline, enabled investigations to determine if a fire was caused by arson or other causes. Otis noted that Gauva was capable of sensing and following trails of incendiaries so that precise causation may be established. Pictured above, from left to right, are Suzanne Garvey, Ludlow Rotary President, Steven Otis, and Frank Heald, rotarian; Gauva is pictured in front of them. LRC meets for lunch on most Tuesdays at 12:15 p.m. at DJ’s Restaurant. The LRC is small and is always looking to welcome new members. If you would like to attend a meeting and learn how you may ‘Serve Humanity’ while enjoying the fellowship of others, please contact any Rotarian or drop a note to Ludlow Rotary, PO Box 216, Ludlow Vermont.
