Space still available for Hildene Youth Corps

MANCHESTER— Hildene Youth Corps is a two week summer program, July 9-20,

for 8 highly motivated young people entering 7th or 8th grade. The team of students will have a unique opportunity to combine work and fun, while making a difference on the 412 acre Lincoln estate. The 2018 project will be to create a vernal pool boardwalk that will allow school groups and visitors to explore this unique and special habitat without damaging the life that thrives there. Youth Corps members spend their mornings working as a team to complete the boardwalk and their afternoons investigating the diverse ecology of Hildene.

It’s “not all work and no fun,” as Youth Corps members will also be making yogurt from goat’s milk, building a birdhouse, felting, lending a helping hand at Dene Farm and exploring the greenhouse. Over the course of the two weeks, they will also learn about nonprofits that are doing important conservation and ecology work, because at the end of the two week session each will be awarded $50 to donate to one of these organizations.
