Windsor- Windsor remains undefeated (4-0) as the Yellow Jacket pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter on Saturday at home against Woodstock. Seth Balch, Ben Meager and Adam Stapleton combined to silence the Woodstock bats, leading to a 12-2 Windsor win.
Balch started on the mound Saturday afternoon, and after walking the first batter, he settled down and ended up retiring 8 straight batters before ending his day after three innings. While Woodstock’s bats were silent, the Windsor lumber produced results quickly and often.
In the bottom of the first inning, Ryland Richardson drew a walk and eventually scored after a Balch single and throwing error. Duncan Frazer and Robert Slocum both walked to load the bases, then Meagher ripped a single to center that plated both Balch and Richardson. Slocum would score on a forced out and Meagher would later scamper home on a passed ball, as Windsor closed out the inning leading 5-0.
Windsor would blow the game open in the second inning, scoring 5 more runs. The big hit came off the bat of Meagher once again, as his double to center would plate Frazer and Slocum. Stapleton came on to pitch and closed out the game with a perfect fifth-inning including two strike outs.
Meagher led the Yellow Jackets at the plate Saturday with 2 hits and 4 RBIs while Slocum added a couple of RBI’s and Daniel Cardillo was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Windsor head coach Jamie Richardson, on Meagher, said, “Ben Meagher continues to impress us at the plate.” Windsor pitching combined for 10 strikeouts while allowing 3 walks on 82 total pitches in 5 innings.
On his team’s pitching on Saturday, Richardson said, “Seth pitched very well the first three and with a good lead we were able to go to our pen and get them some work. Ben Meagher struggled with control and Woodstock got a few runs. I was very impressed with Stapleton coming in and closing the door in the fourth and the fifth. All in all… a combined no-hitter… so the pitching was solid.”
Windsor will look to keep rolling on Tuesday when they host Thetford Academy at 4:30 p.m.
