Drug Take Back Day locations announced

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 28,

Area residents will be able to bring their expired, unused and unwanted prescription and over the counter drugs for disposal during this time.

This service is provided free of charge and no questions asked.

Local prescription take boxes are located at Colonial Pharmacy, 47 Newport Road, New London, 526-2233; New London Police Department, 5 Seamans Road, New London, 526-2626; Newport Police Department, 59 Main St., Newport; Grantham Police Department, Main Lobby, 300 Route 10 South, Grantham, 863-6844; Sunapee Police Department, 9 Sargent Road, Sunapee, 763-5555; Charlestown Police Department, 2 Claremont Road, Charlestown, 826-5747 Sullivan County Courthouse, 14 Main St., Newport and CVS Pharmacy, 1 Wall St., Claremont.

Safe needle disposal is also available at Sullivan County Courthouse in Newport and CVS Pharmacy in Claremont.

Proper medication disposal is key in keeping our communities and environment safe, according to a press release from New London Hospital.

Access and availability of unused medication can increase the risk of accidental exposure or intentional misuse. Improper disposal can also be harmful to the environment. When no longer needed, it’s important to safely dispose of medications, the press release continued.
