NEWPORT — Richard E. Johnson, 47, passed away suddenly on April 20, 2018 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center from complications from a car accident.
Richard was born and raised in Newport on May 5, 1970, but lived in Arizona for several years. He worked as a carpet installer and as a lead person at Sturm-Ruger in Newport.
He loved to read, especially James Patterson, enjoyed crossword puzzles, going fishing, all animals, and any type of New England sporting event (GO PATS!). He was a friendly person, easily able to talk to anyone and everyone. He will be sorely missed by all.
Richard is predeceased by his mother, Dawn Theroux and his brothers, Dean Johnson and Bobby Harvey; grandparents, Richard and Elsie Johnson, Everett and Melvina Emery, and Frank Rich.
Surviving family includes his daughter, Kaylyn Johnson; stepdaughter, Brittani Jones; father, Jim Johnson, and his stepmother, Natalie Johnson; stepfather, Roland Theroux; brother, Brian Johnson and his wife Stacy; nephews, Tyler, Hunter, and Sawyer Johnson, and Josh Toliver; niece, Hannah Johnson; grandmother, Eunice Rich; aunt, Carrie Ann Brown; uncles, Everett “Skip” Emery and his wife Kathy, Dave Rich and his wife Sharon; cousins, Allen Langlois, Ronna Johnson Davis, Everett “Chip”, Shannon, and Nathan Emery, Becky and Eric Rich; and many loving extended family members.
Friends may call on the family from 10-11 a.m. on Friday April 27, 2018 at Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main St. in Newport. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial immediately following in Pine Grove Cemetery in Newport. A reception at the Croydon Church will directly follow the committal.
