MEREDITH, N.H. — It is with great sadness that the family of Robin Sartwell Rist announces her passing in her home with family on Monday, April 23, 2018 after a two-year battle with cancer at 71 years of age.
Robin was born Dec. 23, 1946, in Newport. She was the daughter of Alton “Pete” and Harriet Sartwell. Robin graduated from Towle High School and went on to earn her associate’s degree in business management from New Hampshire College. She worked at Sanders Associates for several years before raising her daughters. She later worked at Barlow Signs in Hudson, New Hampshire and then as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant at Greenbriar Terrace in Nashua before moving to Meredith in 1991. Roger and Robin then purchased George’s Diner and enjoyed 27 years of hard work and friendships of coworkers and customers.
Robin will be lovingly remembered for her infectious laugh, warmest hugs, and most sincere heart by all who knew her. Robin is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Roger Rist; daughter Heidi Schleicher and son-in-law Keith Schleicher of Milton, Massachusetts, daughter Terri Podgorni and son-in-law Jon Podgorni of Thompson, Connecticut; grandchildren Madeline, Kaitlin, Mason, Colby and Samantha; brother Peter Sartwell and sister-in-law Beverly Sartwell of Newport; sister Mary Holt and brother-in-law Dean Holt of Havelock, North Carolina; four-legged son Clifford; beloved nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
Robin was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and always an active member of her community, serving with the Jaycee Women in Nashua, a past president and over 35-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and member of the Board of Directors for Annie Forts UP Fund.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 27, at Mayhew Funeral Home in Meredith, New Hampshire. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at Saint Patrick Parish in Newport. Burial will be at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen at a later date.
