On those cold days, when you felt the drafts in your home and paid those large heating bills, have you ever thought about what it would take to create a cozy, energy-efficient home? The prospect of weatherizing our homes can be a daunting task. Knowing where to start and how to follow though can feel overwhelming.
On Wednesday, May 9, the Sustainable Energy Outreach Network (SEON) in partnership with the Rockingham Energy Committee will sponsor a public forum titled, “All About Weatherization: How to Have a Cozy Home and Save Money Along the Way.” The forum takes place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Rockingham Free Public Library, 65 Westminster St., in Bellows Falls. A $5 donation is encouraged.
Experts from the HEAT Squad — Melanie Paskevich, program director and Corey Trimmer, certified energy auditor – will walk through the steps, beginning to end. They’ll explain the importance of an energy audit, how houses work, what tools are used and what we can learn from the audit report. Find out about the wide variety of services that the HEAT Squad offers — from coaching homeowners on how to prioritize work, providing assistance with finding a contractor, approving the quality of the work done to offering loans. The HEAT Squad can also process the paperwork for incentives.
The average HEAT Squad customersaves $900 a year. Insulation and air sealing can make your home more comfortable in every season. This is a rare opportunity to have all your questions answered and get the resources you need to take the first step.
Samantha Wilhelm, Brattleboro branch manager at Vermont State Credit Union (VSECU) will talk about the various VGreen loan option specifically designed for energy efficient home improvement projects and sustainable energy. John Hyslop of Southeast Vermont Community Action (SEVCA) will talk about the guidelines for participation in their weatherization services.
