Fall Mountain defends their home diamond, beats Kearsarge 9-3

Langdon- Fall Mountain baseball picked up their second win of the season on Tuesday by beating the visiting Cougars 9-3 behind solid pitching from senior Kendal Heath and by racking up nine runs between the third and fifth inning. Wildcats’ head coach Kyle Cavalliere is now 2-1 after taking over the team.

Coach Cavalliere was thankful that his team’s bats came alive on Tuesday, saying, “We finally got our bats going… solid win overall. A couple errors here and there, but those can always be fanned out. Justin did a great job… great at-bats, good fielding. We were taking advantage of runners on base. Our last game… we lost 12-1, we couldn’t do anything… we left like nine runners on base… but today we did a great job to get everything that we could. Guys stuck to it today.”

The Wildcats’ hot streak started in the bottom of the third when they put four runs on the board. Heath supported his own cause by hitting a two-RBI double to get the scoring going. He knocked in Hunter Paquette and Noah Lantz. Then, with the bases loaded, Tucker Wright knocked in Nick Peltier with an RBI-single, and the next batter, Justin Beauregard, knocked in Heath with an RBI-single.

In the fourth inning, Tyler Penrose replaced Kearsarge’s starting pitcher, Kevin Stasolovich, on the mound with two outs and a full count on Heath. Kendal Heath ended up walking, and then with the next at-bat, Billy Wilder hit an RBI-single that scored Paquette. And after a single from Wright, the bases were loaded again. Beauregard then hit a two-RBI single to give the Wildcats the lead, 7-0.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Wildcats added onto their lead with a standup RBI-double from Paquette and an RBI single from Heath to get to their nine runs on the day. The Cougars showed a sign of life in the top of the sixth with a two-RBI double from Tyler Crawford.

Kendal Heath had 12 strikeouts in just five innings of work on Tuesday to lead the Wildcats. Cavalliere, on Heath, said, “We had a solid start… Kendal pitched great, which was good to see.” Heath was also 2-2 with 3 RBIs. Beauregard was 3-4 with 3 RBIs. For Kearsarge, Crawford was 3-3 with 2 RBIs.

Fall Mountain improves to 2-3 on the season and will head to Stevens on Friday. Kearsarge drops to 1-4 and will host Newfound on Wednesday for a double-header.
