NEWPORT — Gloria Phyllis (Hooper) Drown, 2 Meadow Road in Newport, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018, following a period of declining health at New London Hospital.
Gloria was born Dec. 14, 1941, the fourth of seven girls to Theodore Henry and Phyllis Juanita (Johnson) Hooper. She was raised and educated in Newport. She worked at factories throughout the area retiring from Hartford Eichenauer as one of its original employees.
Although Gloria did not have her own children she was the pied piper of her family, and definitely was the favorite Aunt. She loved all her family, especially her nieces and nephews with all her heart. Whenever a baby was born, Aunt Gloria was always ready to love and cuddle them. Gloria loved to tell jokes and her laugh was infectious.
Gloria met the love of her life, Otis Drown, while both were workers at Silvers Raspberry Farm. They married and lived in Claremont for a short time then purchased their home in Newport. She loved to play bingo and board games, and most of the time won. In her later life, Gloria moved to Meadow Road Housing where she met a whole new group of friends and became an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.
She is survived by her sisters: Barbara Russell of Claremont, Gerri George of Newport and Betty Ramspott and her husband, Dana, of Sunapee. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews, each one of them holding a very special place in her heart.
She was predeceased by her dear husband Otis; her parents; and sisters Polly Wilson, Priscilla Haskins and Dianne Follansbee.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 5, with a visiting hour beginning at noon at the Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home in Newport.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Newport Ambulance Attendant Association c/o: Chief Wayne Conroy, 11 Sunapee St., Newport NH 03773 or any children’s charity.
