CLAREMONT — Rita C. Dole, 95 of Claremont, died peacefully Friday, April 27, 2018, at Sullivan County Health Care with her daughter by her side. She was born Nov. 14, 1922, in Lebanon, New Hampshire, the daughter of Clyde Sr. and Velma (Kenyon) Curtis (Tobin) and had been a longtime Claremont resident. Rita was a graduate of Stevens High School, Class of 1942.
She had been employed as a secretary in the engineering department at Joy Manufacturing for more than 42 years. Rita had also been employed by Edward B. Tenney, Esq., the Eagle Times and Traditional Gifts, all in Claremont. She worked until she was 80 years old.
She was an accomplished artist and produced many beautiful oil paintings and wrote poetry. Rita was a member of the Joy Manufacturing Glee Club, Newport Ice Skating Club, Women’s Bowling League and taught line dancing at age 80. She was a longtime member of Union Church. She loved her children and her grandchildren were her life. She enjoyed going out for ice cream with her brother right up until the end.
Members of her family include a daughter, Becki Dole of Claremont; a son, Ross Dole and his wife, Jill of Newport; eight grandchildren, Crystal Morin, Jessica Gagnon, Richelle Beaulieu, Kirsten Dole, Aimee Friesen, Tom McKenney, Nick McKenney and Adam McKenney; 11 great-grandchildren, a brother, Robert Curtis of Newport; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Stanley Curtis and Clyde Curtis Jr.
There will be no visiting hours. A Celebration of Rita’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 13, at the Earl Bourdon Centre, 67 Maple Avenue in Claremont.
