Claremont home a total loss after blaze

CLAREMONT — A mobile home in Claremont is a total loss following a Tuesday morning fire.

The Claremont Fire Department responded at 10:16 a.m. to 13 Madison Place, located in the residential community of in Pleasant Valley Estates, for a reported electrical fire.

The call was dispatched by Claremont Safety Services Dispatch Center.

No injuries were reported in the fire, according to a press release from Claremont Fire Chief Bryan Burr.

An off-duty Claremont fire captain who was in the area at the time of the call confirmed with the dispatch center that the home was “well involved in fire,” all according to Burr.

First arriving crews faced extensive fire conditions at the rear portion of a mobile home.

Three Claremont fire engines were on scene, along with one fire engine from Newport Fire Department assisting. Mutual aid was also provided by Ascutney Fire Department and Cornish Fire Department. A Claremont Police Department cruiser and a Golden Cross Ambulance unit were also stationed nearby.

Smoke was pouring from the rear of the home at close to 10:25 a.m. as firefighters worked to get the the blaze under control.  

The fire was knocked down and deemed under control at 10:35 a.m. All units were back in their quarters by 12:42 p.m., according to the Claremont fire chief.

The home suffered extensive fire damage including extensive smoke and heat damage to portions not directly affected by flames. The rear portion of the home appeared charred and blackened.

The mobile home is a total loss, and was reported as not insured, the chief said.

The Claremont Fire Department fire investigator has determined that the cause of the fire was electrical in nature, all according to the press release.
