CLAREMONT — Hundreds of Claremont Speedway fans got to wander around the easterly end of the Home Depot parking lot Saturday morning to check out many of the cars that will be racing at the Thrasher Road oval starting Friday night.
The annual car ahow got a break in the weather Saturday after the same event was postponed a week earlier by rain.
These cars and many others will be at the track Friday with qualifying races set to start at 7 p.m. The main feature of the evening will be the 100-lap Pro Stock race expected to attract a full field of racers.
Friday’s race will be the first of 21 scheduled this season. Last season six events were washed out by rain. Track officials are hoping for better luck with the weather this year.
“We want to get more kids involved with help from the Claremont Kiwanis Club,” said track marketing and promotions leader Toby Batchelder. “We’re trying to get the next generation interested,” he said.
Batchelder said about 25 cars are expected, including local drivers, for Friday’s Granite State Pro Stock Series along with Super Streets, Street Stocks and Wildcats.
The Beer Garden will be returning to the track this season, Batchelder stated.
Admission for opening night will be $20 for adults, 13 and up, and $10 for children, 6-12. In the event of rain the races will be held Saturday night.
At Saturday’s Car Show, Home Depot gave away bottles of water, bags of popcorn and freshly-grilled hot dog.
