CLAREMONT — Luke Hinkley will have his eyes set on the prize that barely eluded him last season when the Granite State Pro Stock Series thunders into town for Friday, May 4, night’s 2018 season-opening event at Claremont Speedway.
Sunapee’s Ricky Bly will be competing in his 19th opening night race as he begins defense of his career-first championship when the sizzling Super Streets square off in their first feature race of the summer Friday, and hometown hot shoe Zach Lynn – like Bly, a first-time divisional champion a summer ago- will be back in action too.
Friday’s four-division event will be the first of 21 scheduled racing meets this summer at the storied Thrasher Road speedplant and will feature the GSPSS 100-lap main event, as well as a full card of action by the speedway’s three weekly racing series divisions, Super Streets, Street Stocks, and Wild Cats.
A full field of Pro Stocks is expected in to compete for the big purse up for grabs in the night’s 100-lap main event. A year ago, Hinkley led almost all the way before settling for a strong runner-up finish behind Tommy O’Sullivan, who took the lead on lap 97.
A strong contingent of area drivers is expected to join Hinkley in attempting to qualify for Friday’s main event, including Guy Caron, Bryon Baker and Jimmy Zullo and once in the big dance; they’ll be up against the likes of Jeremy Davis, the O’Sullivan brothers and Barry Gray. It should be quite a show.
Qualifying for Friday’s four feature races will begin promptly at 7 p.m.
In the event of inclement weather forcing cancellation of Friday night’s season-opening event, it will be held Saturday, May 5. For more information, please visit http://www.claremontspeedway.net/www.claremontspeedway.net.
