NEW LONDON — Kearsarge Regional High School and local emergency response teams have planned a mock collision for today to illustrate the negative effects impaired driving can have on a community.
The mock collision is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Kearsarge Regional High School on the track, at 457 North Road, North Sutton.
The high school, in conjunction with the Sutton Police Department, will conduct a simulated impaired driving traffic collision, according to a press release from Superintendent Winfried Feneberg.
Student actors will participate in the mock collision, which will feature a simulation of a wrecked car where an impaired driver and the vehicle’s passengers are injured, including one fatality.
As the scene unfolds, students “will be made aware of a series of shocking consequences and will have a realistic look on the dangers of impaired driving,” according to the superintendent.
Emergency responders will also be on scene, as they would in a real crash, along with a hearse, which arrives to transport the student who died.
The mock collision will conclude with an assembly for the students. A prerecorded film will be presented, showing students what unfolds after the driver is arrested following the crash. After the film, emergency responders will be available to answer any questions students may have regarding the presentation and/or the consequences of impaired driving.
Along with Kearsarge Regional High School students and staff, also participating will be the Sutton Police Department, New London Police Department, Sutton Fire Department, Sutton Rescue, New London Ambulance, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Advanced Response Team, and Chadwick Funeral Service.
