To the Editor:
After much soul searching I write this letter! I’m friends with Wayne Conroy, Newport’s Fire Chief and his entire family and Todd Fratzel and his entire family!
In the last couple of years I have watched the local political issues with great interest. I have brought up issues to Mr. Fratzel like the nine million dollars of unassigned funds that was listed in the independent auditors report for Sullivan County. At that time it was 30 percent of the county budget.
Todd called the commissioners and the manager to a meeting to ask why they had stolen so much from the citizens of Sullivan County when the state recommends a 5 percent reserve.
I spoke with other selectmen from other towns including Lempster where I live and nobody cared or took any action. Our local representatives to Concord thought the county was doing a wonderful job of stealing extra taxes!
I think Todd has made a great effort to keep Newport’s taxes in line including calling out neighboring towns for misusing mutual aid and costing Newport taxpayers. Don’t get me wrong Cindy Conroy is a wonderful person but Todd has a proven track record!
