Rain, rain go away

The snow has gone and now April showers have touched down in western New Hampshire. And now we can see if April Showers really do bring May Flowers.

The Sugar River, that starts at Lake Sunapee and exits at West Claremont into the Connecticut River, has been roaring right along with all the rain of late. High School sports activities have definitely been hit hard.

A couple of warm, sunny days have been projected for Wednesday and Thursday, April 2 and 3 when temperatures are expected to rise into the low 80s.

Saturday’s Claremont Speedway Car Show in the Home Depot parking lot attracted plenty of spectators who are ready for the new season of racing to begin on Friday, May 4.

To get an idea of how the weather was during the past week, just look at this sections Week in Review. It rained some for five days in a row. This helps turn the grass on lawns green rather quickly but there remains raking to do for many homeowners. It does appear, however, that the snow has finally stopped. The rain has also put a damper on potential brush fires throughout the area.

High school baseball and softball teams have also been hit with several washouts. Although the Newport High School baseball team got in a makeup game on Saturday, starting Monday, April 30, it is scheduled to play eight games in 13 days.
