On May 3, my neighbor Sue Randall and I drove to the Newport Middle High School for their EXPO, arriving at 5 p.m. We were greeted at the door and given maps with instructions that told us where to go to see all the different exhibits.
Exhibits included student work, what is being taught, demonstrations and tables with information and goodies. Included were many community organizations who are there to support families and children.
I was overwhelmed by what is going on in that school. I found out many interesting things, such as: I can make an appointment to get my car fixed, an appointment to get my hair or nails done, or buy plants for my spring garden. At the NCTV area I discovered that they run a movie every day on channel 10 which I will be sure to watch in the future.
Almost all the exhibits had leaflets describing what they do and had small things to give away. What fun!
During the year, students are able to take courses allowing them to become certified as an LNA when completing the program. There is an amazing welding program as well as a thriving greenhouse. The demonstrations of student work amazed me. Such wonderful things are going on. There were all kinds of snacks and wonderful food available.
I even won a prize to get my fingernails or hair done at the beautiful cosmetology salon. I certainly will take advantage of that!
What an amazing evening. Thank you to all the staff and students that worked so hard to make this possible. I am so sorry that many of you missed this wonderful event, but the teens told me they will have this again next year. Be sure you all go and share in what is happening in our schools. You will be amazed.
