SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — An 11-year-old student who went missing after a class field trip Thursday afternoon was found about four hours later that evening, authorities said.
The student’s class went on a hike in the Muckross State Park. The girl had left her knapsack on one of the trails and the class didn’t have enough time to turn around and get it, police said.
When the class returned from the trip, the girl’s father went on the trails with the girl to look for the knapsack. The girl ran away from her father looking for the pack but got lost, police said. The father looked for her for about an hour before reporting her missing around 4 p.m.
The girl was later found on Commonwealth Avenue around 8 p.m., police said. She asked a resident on the road for help and the resident helped bring her home safely, police said.
The knapsack was also located, police said.
