CLAREMONT- Stevens left the bases loaded twice on Monday and fell to a very good Monadnock team, 11-6, after two big innings by the Huskies left the Cardinals playing catch-up throughout.
With Monadnock jumping out for a quick 2 runs in the top of the first, the Cardinals answered back with a Derrick Stanhope RBI single to center to plate Alex Taylor, that cut the lead to 2-1. But, the visitors would add 4 more runs in the 2nd inning for an early 6-1 lead. Stevens would slice into the lead in their own half of the third inning, as Drew Grenier and Taylor would cross the plate, but the Cardinals left the bases loaded, trailing 7-3.
Stevens would again cut into the Husky lead in the fourth, as Ty Bonneau’s RBI single cut the lead to 7-4, but a very close call at first snuffed out the rally for the home team. Stevens again would leave the bases loaded in the bottom of the 5th with Monadnock leading 7-4, and the Huskies would plate 4 runs in the top of the sixth with the big blow coming in the form a home run to deep left field that climbed up the bank to put the game out of reach.
The Cardinals would score runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, as Trey Theriault and Taylor both had RBIs, but the Huskies shut down any more threats, closing out a hard-fought, 11-6 win.
Stevens now stands even with a 6-6 record. The Cardinals will host Kearsage (3-8) on Thursday at 7pm and then entertain Winnisquam (4-8) on Friday at 4. With Monday’s win, Monadnock is 9-3.
